Famous Inspirational Quotes

I always love searching for quotes, especially quotes that relate to young children and education.  The following few quotes are a few quotes that I found very interesting by Lev Vygotsky and Urie Bronfenbrenner.

“The child begins to practice with respect to himself the same forms of behavior that others formerly practiced with respect to him.”  -Lev Vygotsky

This quote is very true because a child will grow and learn act according to the environment that they grow up in.

"It may be said that the basic characteristic of human behavior in general is that humans personally influence their relations with the environment and through that environment personally change their behavior, subjugating it to their control."  - Lev Vygotsky, Mind in Society

"No society can long sustain itself unless its members have learned the sensitivities, motivations and skills involved in assisting and caring for other human beings." -Urie Bronfenbrenner

"The primary danger of the television screen lies not so much in the behavior it produces as the behavior it prevents-the talks, the games, the family activities and the arguments through which much of the child's learning takes place and his character is formed."  -Urie Bronfenbrenner

I absolutely love this quote.  We need to stop letting the children in this world watch so much television at a young age.  What they watch on television they learn from and they think everything they see on television is okay.  Along with Urie, we need to spend more time teaching and working with children on the basic skills and important things in life than letting them sit in front of the TV for hours at a time.

· "I wanted to be a teacher because I had a built in passion that was important to make a real contribution in the world and fix all the injustices in the world."  -Louise Derman-Sparks

·     "We as professionals in the early childhood field have an opportunity to shape a child’s life for the better, and that’s what makes me passionate about this field."  -Sandy Escobido

  1. I love the quote about TV. It is sad how many of my students are placed in front of the tv when they get home from school and not encouraged to go outside to play or even have interaction with their family. I also selected the same quote from Louise Derman-Sparks. I felt it pretty much summed up why many of us became teachers to begin with.

  2. Hi Chelsea! You have alot of quotes here. I enjoyed reading them all especially the quote about tv and technology. I have seen just over that last few years how technology is making kids so lazy. How are you supposed to interact with other children or your family when they are watching tv or playing on the computer for hours. I also like the quote from Sandy Escobido. We as teachers are the role models that these children look up to. We have the opportunity to make a difference and be that individual that they want to be. Great quotes.

  3. Chelsea, Loved the quote regarding the TV. I can totally relate and agree. I know of families whose children always watch TV from infancy and the youngest child is almost 4 and my 21 month old has a better vocabulary and is already talking in 3-5 word sentences. This almost four year old has a very limited vocabulary. We set limis in our house and the kids spend more time out doors, especially when the weather is nice. In fact when their dad isn't home they TV rarely goes on. More families need to follow suit.
